  Anne C. Gaynor September 9, 1932 - October 25, 2017 Anne C. Gaynor, 85 years young, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at the stroke of midnight. (She had to be home by 12.) She was a 15 year pancreatic cancer survivor; her oncologist delighted in having a patient who crushed the odds. He stated, "She's been playing with the bank's money for years." She was born on Sept. 9, 1932, in Winona, MN to Dr. Eli and Eunice Christensen. As a child, Anne showed great acumen in school studies, and sports. She was a high honor roll student, competitive golfer, and Home Coming Queen. In 1950, she ventured to Wellesley College, sight unseen. Her big world adventure began with a steamer trunk and a series of trains before landing in Massachusetts. She transferred to Northwestern, class of 54. From there, she landed a job in NYC for NBC television where she met Jack Tobin the love of her life. They married in 1956 and had two daughters, Mary Kit and Elizabeth Carroll. In 1974, sadly, Jack passed away suddenly, and Anne bravely raised her daughters as a solo parent. Several years later, she was set up on a blind date with Albert Gaynor, a former United States Attorney Southern District of NY. They married in 1976 adding to the family a caring stepfather, two sons, Larry and Alan, and a daughter, Robin. They lived in back country Greenwich where Anne had horses. In 1988, they moved to San Diego and enjoyed a lovely retirement for 20 + years. Albert passed in 2007 and Anne moved back east to Old Greenwich to be closer to her family. She was a nature lover, gardener, fed the birds with Friends of Greenwich Point, and loved dogs; and speaking of dogs, loved the Mets. Additionally, Anne was a dedicated member to the community of AA for 30 years. She was actively involved in the lives of her children, stepchildren, and grandchildren. Anne is survived by her two daughters, five grandchildren, her brother, Jon Christensen, who resides in Winona, along with his two sons Carl and Eric Christensen, and Carl's children, Haley and Ben. Up until the end of September, she enjoyed robust health and mental clarity. She was still playing nine holes of golf, NY Times crossword puzzles IN PEN, and working out with the Silver Sneakers group. She will greatly be missed, loved by many, missed by all. Memorial Services will be held at the Stanwich Congregational Church in Greenwich, CT, on Friday, Nov. 10, at 11:00 a.m. A service of interment will take place in Winona at a later date.
