- Graduated and was commissioned in 1957 from Pittsburg State University after previously earning the rank of Master Sergeant during the Korean War.
Colonel Coffman served in armored and cavalry units in the United States, Europe, Korea, Vietnam, and Cambodia. He participated in four combat tours and 13 campaigns in close combat including the landings at Inchon and Pusan. Among his awards and decorations are the Army Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, three Bronze Star Medals, the Purple Heart, and the Wharang Distinguished Military Service Medal from the Republic of Korea.
After retiring from the Army, COL Coffman joined the BDM Corporation in Williamsburg, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Betsy Ross Coffman; daughter, Kelley Kulaga; son and daughter-in-law, COL and Mrs. Ross Coffman; and four grandchildren, Lindsey, Jack, Lauren, and Katelyn.
