  HORCHOW-- Samuel Roger. S. Roger Horchow, born July 3, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio, died of complications related to cancer on May 2, 2020, at his home in Dallas, TX, surrounded by his daughters, Regen Fearon, Lizzie Routman, and Sally Horchow. Horchow was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn Pfeifer, who died in 2009 after 49 years of marriage. In addition to his daughters, Horchow is survived by his son-in-law, Daniel Routman; granddaughters, Samantha Pillsbury, Regen and Emily Routman, Fiona and Sabrina Fearon; brother-in-law, Eugene M. Pfeifer III and Linda Pfeifer of Little Rock, Arkansas; and his many dear friends around the world. A Yale Graduate (1950), he also received the Yale University Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in 1999. He served in the Korean War as 1st Lt. in the Army Security Agency. In 1971, Horchow founded The Horchow Collection, the first luxury mail-order catalog without a bricks-and-mortar presence. Prior to the creation of the catalog business, Roger worked for his mentor, Stanley Marcus, as the Group Merchandise Director at Neiman Marcus from 1960 to 1971. He started his retail career as a buyer for Foley's in Houston from 1953 to 1960. He sold the Horchow Collection to the Neiman Marcus Group in 1988, which provided the seed funds for his next career as a Broadway producer. In 1992, Horchow produced Crazy For You, a Gershwin musical, for which he won his first Tony Award for Best Musical. He went on to win a second Tony for Best Revival of a Musical for Kiss Me, Kate in 1999. He then produced Curtains in 2006, the 2008 revival of Gypsy, and the 2012 revival of Annie, as well as Bandstand in 2017. He was the author of three books: "Elephants in your Mailbox," "Living in Style" and "The Art of Friendship," co-written with daughter Sally Horchow. He served on many boards throughout his lifetime, including the Dallas Museum of Art, Yale University Art Gallery, Museum of Modern Art in New York, Whitney Museum in New York, World Wildlife Fund, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Jefferson Awards for Public Service, American Jewish Committee, Committee for the Preservation of the White House, White House Historical Society, Public Radio International (now PRX), KERA-Channel 13/90.1FM, Foundation for Art and Preservation of Embassies, Eagle Scout Association, Boy Scouts of America Dallas Chapter, Harry Ransom Center, Center for Human Nutrition, UT Southwestern, Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows, and the Dallas Theater Center.
